But as people look for new places to take a vacation Transnistria is not the place.
It has been in a "frozen Conflict" since breaking away from Moldova in 1992 and has no reason to rejoin Moldova.
It is a terrorist's paradise with President Smirnov allowing the province to actively deal in illegal drugs, arms, and prostitutes that are supplied throughout Europe.
But the "Frozen Conflict" is about to heat up as the Ukraine, its neighbor, has installed strict import documentation into Transnistria.
Transnistria is supported by Russia and its citizens travel on Russian passports and Russia has installed a 1,800 man force inside the province that produces both Russian Kalashnikov machine guns and the Grad Hail Missile system for Russia. It even supplied arms to Saddam's Iraqi regime in a joint venture with Moscow.
Now the 25 member EU is behind the Ukraine's new import rules and Russia is up in arms over this, a statelet about the size of Rhode Island.
Expect the "Frozen Conflict" to melt very soon into what could be a civil war for control of all of Moldova, the poorest country in Europe.
